Dameon V. Alexander, Ph.D.

Dr. Alexander is the Founder and Managing Partner. He initially launched Counter Current as a volunteer effort in the United Kingdom and worked on select projects with London education consultants. He soon returned to the The States and began working on several projects in both schools and universities. He has a colorful professional background ranging from broadcast media, banking, investments, teaching, instructional technologies, and university management. Motivated by a potpourri of experiences, he recently published an academic research book that has been supported by both American and British scholars as crucially important to the sociology of education; The Imprint of Business Norms on American Education is a case study of charter and private schools in the District of Columbia and develops a theory to practice educational model.

Alexander has appeared as a keynote and guest speaker for many educational events including a 2001 No Child Left behind congressional panel with conservative political commentator Armstrong Williams.  He is the nephew of the late civil rights activist Dr. C. Delores Tucker and will soon transition into a lead role over the Bethune-DuBois Institute, an urban education non-profit organization.

Raised in Washington, D.C. he later earned a B.A. in Communications Electronic Media/Business Administration as well as an M.Ed. in Administration and Supervision from Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH. Then he relocated overseas and graduated with a Doctorate from the University of Cambridge as a member of Darwin College.

M. Anthony Anderson, Ph.D.

Dr. Anderson is the Senior Education Consultant.  He is a researcher at the University of Delaware in Newark, DE where he was recently awarded the Excellence in Teaching Award, the university's highest teaching honor. He is also brand manager for Cool Hunter LLC, music producer for Vizionary Productions, and Dean of Students at Mastery Charter Schools in Philadelphia, PA.

Anderson is credited with being one of the foremost thinkers and researchers on "Hip-Hop Pedagogy," an educational theory that involves exploring the educational and entrepreneurial possibilities of Hip-Hop culture.  His proudest moment involves the creation of Bassline Entertainment, an after-school program he developed with the assistance of Dr. Shuaib Meacham and Jennifer Bishop in Wilmington, DE.  Initially, the goal in establishing the group was to help engage students academically that had been historically resistant to traditional educational approaches. This after-school program ultimately evolved into a summer camp and a professional performance group that recorded and produced three albums and toured The United States and Europe.  While in Europe, aspects of Anderson's "Hip-Hop Pedagogy" curriculum were adopted into the Sheffield, England school curriculum and standardized testing program.

Bassline has featured in numerous educational and mainstream publications.  Bassline shared the stage with numerous Hip-Hop icons including: P. Diddy, Mary J. Blige, Russell Simmons, Busta Rhymes, and B2K, among others.  In addition to Bassline's numerous artistic achievements, 100 percent of the students in Bassline received admission to four-year colleges and universities with many of the students receiving music and performance-based scholarships.

While engaged in charter school work, he also works professionally in the music industry as a manager and consultant to an array of talent ranging from Grammy Award winning artists including The Roots, B.O.B., popular actress and singer Zoe Kravitz, Grammy Award winning producers Dre & Vidal, up and coming artist Mike Jaggerr (former Bassline member). He has also consulted on projects for Al Green, Jill Scott, John Legend, and more.

Anderson has been featured or quoted in over 20 publications, including the Philadelphia Inquirer, AllHipHop.com and Vibe magazine. He has also served as a guest educational correspondent for CNN/HLN

Anderson was raised in Columbus, OH.  He earned his B.A. in Vocal Music Education at Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH. He obtained an M.Ed. in Elementary Education from Florida State University, and an M.A. and a Doctorate in Education from the University of Delaware.
